Professional Background

Simon Valverde is a Partner at Eproint and a widely recognized IP lawyer in Costa Rica. His career has been defined by a deep commitment to intellectual property law, spanning patent prosecution and litigation, trademark protection, trade secrets, copyright, and IP policy development.

Simon previously worked at the Vice Dean’s Research Office at the University of Costa Rica, where he oversaw intellectual property, technology, and knowledge transfer matters. This academic experience has given him a unique perspective on the intersection of innovation, research, and IP protection.

Throughout his career, Simon has prosecuted numerous patent applications and has extensive examiner interview experience. He has successfully litigated patent examination standard-setting cases and has advised the Costa Rica Patent Office on patent law regulations, demonstrating his influence on the development of IP practice in the country.

As a founding member and former director of the Costa Rican Association of Intellectual Property Professionals (APPICR), Simon has played a pivotal role in shaping the IP profession in Costa Rica. His dedication to education is evidenced by his teaching at various universities since 2011 and his contribution to redesigning the Master’s degree in Intellectual Property at UNED.
