Professional Background

Vanessa Cabrera is a Partner at Eproint with more than 20 years in the intellectual property practice, where she represents local and international clients on intellectual property, regulatory, corporate, and litigation matters related to IP.

Before becoming partner at Eproint, her trajectory included serving as career prosecutor at the Office of the Attorney General of the Dominican Republic and heading the IP litigation department of an IP law firm in the country, representing major international clients in the protection and defence of their intellectual property rights.

During her practice she has obtained landmark decisions that have contributed to the development of intellectual property jurisprudence in the Dominican Republic, particularly in matters involving expert evidence in IP disputes, trademark use, and bad-faith trademark registrations. Several of her successful cases have been included in the jurisprudential compilations published by the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI).

Vanessa serves as an IP professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and is a faculty member of the first Master’s Degree Programme in Intellectual Property jointly developed by the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). She has lectured in the IP Diploma Programme at Gaceta Judicial and in the Summer Law School Programme organised by ADED, and provides trademarks and copyright training to customs officials and authorities at ports and airports, including in the training developed by Homeland Security, United States of America, on Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights.

She has been part of the Anti-Piracy and Copyright Committees at the International Trademark Association (INTA), as well as of the Fashion Law and Unfair Competition Committees at the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI). She is an active member of INTA, AIPPI, and ASIPI
